It’s going to be a long summer here on the banks of the Potomac. Between government agencies making unprecedented power grabs to limit public access to publicly owned waters and lands, to the astonishing decree that the very breath you, your kids, your friends, even your dog exhales, is now a threat to human health. CO2 that is… Never mind the little fact that without it, every living thing on the planet is dead or anything, because after all, this is Washington. So yep! It’s going to be a long summer indeed.

It’s doubtful a single day goes by without a conversation devolving into our common frustration with government. Like most Americans, I believe in work, honesty, and fairness. I think if you play by the rules, pay your taxes, serve your country and participate in the community, the result is the kind of society we’re happy to raise our kids in. Yet, in this era of make believe money and bailout rewards for underachieving decision makers, those core beliefs are in question. Call me naive or a sucker, but never question my faith in the majority of the American people being far smarter than any politician, bureaucrat, or media talking head.

Recently a prominent politician, a politician mind you, decreed the debate is over on global warming and it’s time to tax each of us for little things like electricity, the gas we use to get to work, and heating for our families when those pesky Arctic air masses settle in for an extended stay. An- other well-known bag of hot air says anyone questioning his very lucrative environmental doomsday fear-mongering is a “fat earther.” We know... there’s no such word, however, reality has never been high on this guy’s agenda. It’s strange though, as I always believed Earth was a sphere.
